Register with us as a New Patient

Temporary Residents

The length of time that a patient is intending to reside in an area dictates whether a patient is registered as a temporary or permanent patient. You can register as a Temporary Resident if you are planning to reside in the practice area for more than 24 hours but less than 3 months. Please note:

  • Temporary Residents must register by telephone after 10:30 Mon – Fri (0345 337 9933).
  • It is not the member of staff at reception that processes the Temporary Resident information; and if you do come to the reception desk you will be advised to make a telephone call.
  • If your intention to register is in order to obtain an immediate prescription then there will be a period of time to get the registration on the clinical system; and you will be asked to phone back after 13:30 for anything deemed to be Urgent on the Day (this is the same for all of our patients). I
  • If your request for treatment or a prescription is not urgent then you are respectfully requested to complete a Clinical Triage form for the following working day.

Permanent Residents

You can register as a permanent resident if you are planning to stay in the area for more than 3 months.

When you attend the Practice to register, you will be asked to complete a GP registration form and new patient questionnaire form, these must be completed before you see the Doctor. Please do not wait until you urgently need an appointment before registering.

All newly registered patients will be asked attend for a “New Patient Check” using our self-service SurgeryPod. This enables us to assess your medical needs. Please note that you will be registered to a specific GP. You can, at any time, express a preference for a particular doctor, but we may not be able guarantee this due to GP availability.

There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to register with your chosen GP Practice. You may, for example, live outwith the Practice Area. If this is the case, simply choose another Practice in your local area.

Your medical records may take several weeks to arrive at the Practice.

Practice Area

A practice area defines the boundary within which a GP practice operates. It is not a requirement that a patient is resident in the practice area, determining policy in this regard is a matter for the practice itself (being resident in the practice area may include, for example, being street homeless but primarily within the area).

A GP practice may reasonably choose to refuse an applicant’s request to register if the applicant lives outside the area that the practice covers. Practice partners are duty bound to consider the best interests and balance the needs of all their patients. They also need to ensure that they are able to fulfil their contractual obligations towards all patients, including home visits.

Applications from Overseas visitors

A patient does not need to be “ordinarily resident” in the country to be eligible for NHS primary care – in effect, therefore, anybody in Scotland may register and consult with a GP without charge. Overseas Visitors can register on the same basis as ordinary residents. This is not the same for Secondary Care.

Pre-register Online

It is quicker and simpler to complete our online pre-registration form. The registration process will be completed in the surgery when you come in to do our new patient check on one of our surgery pods.

Complete paper forms

If you would rather submit your application to register personally, please come into the Practice and complete the forms.

Please click on the button below to view our Registration policy. You are advised to bring these documents to the Practice so we can process your registration. If you cannot produce the documentation required, we may not be able register you with the Practice.
